Let’s Go Green Algonquin!

No Gravatar

Hey students.

The college has an Energy Awareness Committee which informs students, faculty and staff on energy initiatives for better college practices.

The BOD blog will keep you up-to-date on changes made by the Algonquin College and the Students’ Association to improve the standard of energy usage on campus.

Add your comments on what you would like the college to improve on and continue doing well.

Two questions to think about:
What do you want the college to do to make the campus greener?
What have you seen the college do recently to improve the standard of being environmentally sustainable?

The Energy Awareness Committee will be collecting feedback from your comments posted. Your issues will be discussed at the meetings.

So tell us what you want your college to do for you.

Not only for the benefit of students who study during the week, but even students who study on the weekend only.

What kind of events would you want… more concerns, comedians … give me some ideas :) and we’ll talk about it. It’s a great idea.

You’d make sure all your friends came, wouldn’t you?

I think this would be amazing, it would even open up some weekend job opportunities for those of us who can’t work weekdays!

That’s also a great consideration, Paul. I’ll definitely be bringing this up with our marketing department. On the weekends also, the SA is pushing to have service hours extended on to the weekends as well as opening up Thunder Alley (the cafeteria in the A building across from the gym). What are your thoughts on that?

I always enjoy the X-Rated Hypnosis with Tony Lee! The show is always a blast and it is very interactive.

The comedy nights are also fun. However, from my experience the comedians are never really showed much respect from the students. Usually they are saying the joke and students are talking.

For going greener… This maybe a difficult task…but what about composting food? We have all the recycling bins…its just one step above everything else!

To make the campus greener, I would suggest adding recycling bins to each room, class and other, so glass and plastic are being thrown out there instead of in garbage cans. Possibly even hold like an Algonquin Green Day or something like that, where everyone wheres green and contributes to the day by recycling and possibly making a fundraiser or game out of it. Those are just my two cents.

The college should start offering composting receptacles in the cafe. The compost could then either be given to the horticulture students or I am sure there are other organizations in Ottawa that would greatly appreciate it

I think that it would a great idea for SA to arrange a school wide “clean up X park” to help the environment.
