Faculty strike vote results

No Gravatar

Although Algonquin faculty voted as a majority against a strike, the province-wide vote has gone in favour of striking. The union has stated they do not intend on striking anytime before mid-february, and that they want to get back to bargaining in good faith.

We respect the faculty union’s position and remain optimistic that the two sides can reach an agreement in the coming weeks!

If you have any questions whatsoever please don’t hesitate to contact either myself or any other SA director!

Cheers :)

There will be no strike until at least February 15 (according to OPSEU 415′s web site). The union purposely chose this date because that is when students are on Study Break.

I went through the 2006 strike. I recall the labour dispuption occured on the Tuesday after the Study Break and lasted exactly one month. Students returned to class following the strike on a Tuesday.

There was a “semester completion plan” initiated to complete the term. The plan was to have no final exams. The mid-terms and class assignments were weighted higher.
